'The Dominican Republic Letter'
Dear Daredevil Discs,
Thank you so much for your donation of discs to our trip. We headed down to the Dominican Republic to a village called Juan Tomas, which is about 45 minutes north of the capitol of Santo Domingo. Our team of 14 had a dual purpose on our trip. Each day half the team worked on building a set of bathrooms along with a functioning septic tank, while the other half ran a day camp for the community children. Through the week, each member would have many chances to participate in both construction and playing with the children. On any given day, there were about 200 kids ranging from the ages of 4 to 16.
Early in the week when we brought out the discs that you donated to our team, the kids instantly fell in love with them. They were also surprisingly talented at throwing a disc even though they had never thrown a one before. There wasn't much room for playing ultimate, but we did play all kinds of catch with the kids - even some competitive versions. Even though we did not speak the same language, we were still able to communicate together through the bond of sports and just time spent with one another.
Thank you Daredevil Discs, for your generosity and excitement to be a part of our trip.
